<<in the current environment for boxmakers, it appears to me that anything short of record setting growth in earnings and mkt share is going to be viewed as underwhelming.>>

Jacktoad: You may be right about high expectations...Yet, DELL could really deliver for us this time....Somebody seems to be taking corporate business from CPQ in a BIG WAY <GGG> ...!!

Best Regards,

Scott

Jacktoad: I agree with your assessment, that anything short of record setting growth etc etc is going to be viewed as underwhelming. I also believe everyone at Dell is acutely aware of this.

IF Dell needs a prop come earnings time and they are thinking that a further deal with IBM is it, I would expect IBM to use this to their maximum advantage at the negotiating table by dragging it out as close to Dell's earnings as possible. On the other hand, if IBM is hurting and needs a prop, they may be a little more amenable to a deal done sooner. I'm not sure when IBM reports, but I think it's within the next two weeks. I think they both know they need each other and are a little too stubborn to admit it right out, probably more so IBM than DELL. Starting to sound like a good movie....
