Corel looks to Web to improve customer service
...Corel has about 50 employees working on the development of the site. It will spend close to 10 per cent of its R&D budget on the portal, in an attempt to tap the estimated 50 million Corel users world-wide.

Mr. Cowpland sees that customer base as "a huge opportunity." The key, he said, is to find ways to capitalize on the legions of WordPerfect and CorelDraw users.

Accordingly, the portal will be used to strengthen ties between Corel and its customers -- a relationship Mr. Cowpland admits has been "sporadic" in the past.
