According to US law, serving in the armed forces of another country or assuming a position in a foreign government disqualifies one from US citizenship (unless they have special permission from the US government such as ICN's Panic when he served as Prime MInister of Yugoslavia in '92-'93).

One "volunteer" is a Staff Sgt. in the National Guard (NJ or NY) according to newspaper reports. On leave? There must be some "civilian" Special Ops guys among them.

What will be the reaction of the US govt. if Serbian Americans "volunteer" for the other side?

Nope. I've said if I were forced to take a side, which I am not, I would fight on the side of the Albanians. This struggle is a local ethnic fued. It has come to violence because of inflexible bigotry on both sides. The issues are heavily intrenched in the Euro/Asian balance of powers and historical alliances. So I see the need for Asian and European countries to have a say in its settlement. I even see the sensibility of the USA casting support to our European Alliances. That is not the image I get from the News. I get a picture of bull Kington flexing his muscles. If the individual people of the United States see themselves bound to defend their relatives or ancestors in the Balkans, I understand their need to go and join up and fight on one side or another. There are lots of Serbs in the USA also. Once again the media is at the beck and call of the white house to make its point.
