News on Kosovo that you may not find in the US media (from the French daily "Le Monde" and "Agence France Presse" )

. French Defense Minister (Richard) mentions that most objectives in the "degradation" of Yugoslav army have been achieved. (Translate : the French want an exit).

. British Foreign Minister (Cook) would welcome Russian soldiers for Kosovo peace force. (Translate : the Brits want an exit)

. French Prime Minister (Jospin) no longer uses the world "genocide" and "war criminal" in reference to Kosovo and Milosevic. (Translate : NATO knows it will have to negotiate with Milosevic.)

. NATO planes blew up a bridge with train on it this morning. 10 dead, 20 injured.

. Russia mentions 400 dead Yugoslav civilian as a result of bombing campaign.

. Jesuits operating refugee center in Alabania mentioning unbelievable atrocities committed by Serb paramilitary.

It looks like NATO is positioning itself to negotiate : although there is some talk of a long war, added plane to the region, and noises about ground troops, this seems mostly to strenghen NATO's bargaining position.

Russia is being courted intensively for its role as a potential mediator. We are very likely to see a cease fire within a week or two.
