What do you want to know? The time you get a page and told to go to the cafeteria, where Joe telling the employees that 50% of them will lose their jobs. That was really 1985. Having ALL of your retirement taken away, Losing most of the other benefits. Seeing people you had worked with for a couple of years being escorted out of the building by security. The time Randal Chance stated if we did not make a profit we could be given hammers and nails for presents; they would supply the boards. All this why you are going from an NMOS to a CMOS, 256 K (yes K) to a one Meg while dropping several masking steps. The first of the lead lots yield at probe so ALL of the old starting material was SCARPPED. Only to have the lead lot bomb out at test; lucky it was an easy fix or there would be no use for this thread. There was excitement that can never be reproduced either. Standing with the best minds in semiconductors waiting for probe information on material you all had worked on for 48 hours straight. Knowing you had the best process, best minds and best design in the world; but not knowing if the company wold be there the next day. Having ALL of the salaried employees taking 10% or more cuts; most of the upper management went unpaid for several months. I will get you more details later. It still makes me tired to think about the hours, stress and families that fell apart during those times. Being married to Micron was the mind thought of the time. Unfortunately you can count the number of marriages that survived on one had. There was a lot of good in the end. The REAL Micron emerged from that time ready for “world domination.” Two years ago that could have happened. Now I hope NO ONE has to go through another time like that again. MU does not have the people or the starving mentality to survive and conquer like they did. The Koreans are now armed and coming fast; they learned from the best – Micron. They paid for it and we taught them.
