James,

I have been reading up on my history of the
Balkans and the only thing that I find amazing
now is how Yugoslavia actually had 40 years
of peace after world war II. George Will had
a really interesting article last week where
he pointed out that the biggest museum in Serbia
is dedicated to war. There is a whole wing of
the museum given to torture devices that were
used by Croatians against Serbs. One of the
things in the museum is a device that is made
for gouging the eyes out of a victim (Serbian,
no doubt). I don't know why eye gouging was
such a fashionable thing in Balkan history but
that is the situation. Very sad.
