My comment is based on my own speculation. this article also does not say anything other than that a second tier analyst predicts a $500 million shortfall. Who are you going to believe in the long run, Soundview or Merrill Lynch. My speculation is based on history.

The company also said it is on target to post revenues in excess of $8 billion, an increase of more than 30 percent from the year-ago quarter. Lucent issued today's statement in response to recent market speculation about the quarter. Lucent will report its earnings on April 22.

"Lucent saw strong growth this quarter both inside and outside the U.S.," said Richard McGinn, Lucent chairman and chief executive officer. "We remain very confident about our short-term and long-term prospects as our customers continue to invest in the communications networks of the future."
