XLNT OBTAINS $14 MILLION IN PRIVATE PLACEMENT
FUNDING

Third Round Financing Advances the Millennium 4000™ Gigabit
Ethernet Product Line

SAN DIEGO, CA -- March 2, 1998
XLNT, a leading manufacturer of networking technologies, announced today the close of a round of
equity funding in the amount of $14 million. New investors include London Pacific Life & Annuity
Corporation with a $6M investment
, and Technology Associates Corporation and Tech Alliance
Corporation each with $1M. The remaining $6M was invested by XLNT's existing venture capital
partners, BankAmerica Ventures, Enterprise Partners, Venrock Associates, Alta Partners, and Intel
Corporation. XLNT will use the capital to complete development on new additions to its Gigabit
Ethernet product line.

"This financing allows us the flexibility to add the products and features to our Millennium 4000
product line which our customers are asking for," said Bill Atkinson, president and CEO of XLNT. "Our
constantly growing world-wide sales combined with this investment confirm the appeal of our unique
strategy of migrating FDDI and Ethernet users to next generation Gigabit Ethernet technologies."

Gigabit Ethernet is a natural evolution in technology for the millions of Ethernet installations. Gigabit
Ethernet will create a smooth migration path from either Fast Ethernet or FDDI technology to higher
bandwidths. Most FDDI backbones are implemented to co-exist with Ethernet, and can, consequently,
connect with Ethernet servers and desktops. Based on the original IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard for
CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) networks.

"We feel that outside of FDDI and of course Ethernet, ATM has the largest installed base of
customers," commented Atkinson. "It only makes good business sense for us to give these customers
the same migration path for their ATM to the higher speeds of Gigabit Ethernet that we offer our
FDDI customers."

About the Millennium 4000 Product Line
The Millennium 4000 backbone switch offers hot-swappable Gigabit Ethernet, 10/100 Ethernet and
FDDI media cards in a five slot chassis with redundant power supplies. By connecting to legacy
protocols in addition to Gigabit Ethernet, it provides a smooth migration of the existing infrastructure
to higher performance.
