I don't mind paying taxes especially on profits!!!! Even my losses help lower the taxes I already pay- so all the way around I just have some fun with investing. To find a good tax attorney always start with
recommendations from family, friends or a trusted investment counselor
you may already use. We have a great one in NJ. Regards...Patherzen

<<<Considering getting myself a good tax attorney for next year. Does anyone have advice on how to pick one?>>>
I just went thru that routine and will have to say those people are scarce but keep trying. I finally asked my niece, now with a big law firm but still nobody there could do the job so she gave me a reference nearby. A retired district director of the IRS
who now practices with their law firm in Okla City (3 hours from here) and am very happy with that selection.
I believe an accounting firm could find the person you want faster than an attorney firm.
Good luck
Sig

OT I need to start learning about how to not get killed on taxes.
I just finished a long talk with my CPA (as I picked up the tax papers). I owed a lot, even though I've sent in a lot, and barely avoided penalties for underestimating.

He said that half or more of his clients work up elaborate schemes to avoid taxes. The problem is they kill their returns and the net result is I get more spendable money in the end by maximizing returns and just paying the tax (Although I do try for capital gains over regular income ).
