3Com Palm Systems Will Continue to Dominate Handheld Market
BUSINESS WIRE - 03:39 p.m Apr 12, 1999 Eastern

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 1999--Computer Economics
expects 3Com Palm Systems to continue to dominate the handheld market, even as
Microsoft CE makes gains and the rest of the competitors quickly loose ground.

While 3Com Palm Systems will gain market share for the next four years, then remain
static at 60 percent of the market from 2002 to 2003, Microsoft will gain market share in
each of the next five years.

"Look for Microsoft CE to gain more market share than Palm Systems during the next
five years, but expect 3Com to maintain its dominance in the handheld market," said
Computer Economics' Director of Research and Advisory Services, Michael Erbschloe.
"The number of handheld computers being shipped will increase steadily during the next
five years."

Handheld computer shipments will increase from a total of 6.5 million units in 1999 to 14
million units in 2003. The number of low-end models being shipped will grow at a faster
rate than the number of high-end models.
