Funny how Microsoft, Sony, etc. are so concerned about the poor sound quality of MP3. I've listened to a RIO and compared to a minidisc or portable cd player I think the perceived sound quality is equal. You might discern the difference with a $200 set of studio headphones but not with lower cost headphones which is what most users would be listening through. In fact, the only BIG differences I saw were

1. The RIO didn't skip like a portable CD player
2. The RIO weighs just a fraction of a portable CD player
3. The RIO costs half as much as a minidisc
4. The RIO is much more energy efficient than either one

This is jmho but I think consumers are happy with MP3. All we want is more memory in a player like the RIO. It is Sony, Microsoft and various record companies who do not like Diamond or MP3. I wonder why?
