Lee:Strong growth and low inflation, guess it is steady as she goes then.<g>

GREG JONES, CHIEF ECONOMIST, BRIEFING.COM:

''Strong growth and low inflation. March retail sales were a little on the soft side, (but) we once again saw a huge upward revisions to prior months. We're now looking at first-quarter consumption growth which should be in excess of five percent. So the consumer is still spending even though the March number was a little bit soft.''

MARK VITNER, ECONOMIST, FIRST UNION CORP.:

''We still have plenty of momentum in the retail sector. Car sales slowed from an incredibly strong pace in January and February to, I guess, just a remarkable pace in March. Going forward, because sales have been so strong, they're not going to show the typical uptick in the spring that we normally see. But year-over-year they are still very strong.''
