So every day a smaller and smaller area of the earth is exclusively served by Iridium. Yeah, this is going rapidly going from %99 to %98. Since you think cell phones compete with iridium, it is clear you have no concept what the point of this service is. Did you even know that iridium phones are cellular phones? Huh? I suggest you get out of toronto and see what cellular coverage in Canada is like. Its not desert nomads, but people living in towns like Inuvik. Get out a globe and look at how much is covered by cellular service. You think the cellular people are covering the vast hinterlands? Think again, as expensive as Iridium is, it is super cheap in $/covered mile. Cellular coverage costs are going up, not down, and are never going to cover even half of the area Iridium covers.
