Lucent Technologies Unveils Cajun P120
Workgroup Switch

Expandable, High-Performance Platform Provides
10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Capabilities Starting at Under $100 Per Port

MURRAY HILL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1999-- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU
- news) today announced the Cajun(TM) P120 Workgroup Switch, a 10/100/1000 megabits per
second (Mbps) Ethernet switch that is the newest member of its Cajun Campus enterprise data
networking portfolio.

The fully-featured Cajun P120 combines a high-performance switch fabric, flexible expansion
capability, simplified installation and management and sophisticated network monitoring
capabilities--all at a starting price of less than $100 per port. With the addition of the P120 to
the Cajun product family, Lucent now offers one of the broadest portfolios of 10/100/1000
workgroup switches in the industry.

The Cajun P120 provides 24 ports of 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, with a front panel expansion slot
that supports a variety of available add-on modules, including: either one or two ports of Gigabit
Ethernet, two fiber Fast Ethernet ports or eight-ports of 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. A four gigabits
per second (Gbps) switch fabric enables wire-speed switching along with Hunt Group link
aggregation support of up to eight 10/100 ports or two ports of Gigabit Ethernet. When combined
with the Cajun P550 Gigabit Switch in the backbone, these P120 capabilities allow managers to
build future-proof networks capable of scaling performance to meet the demanding bandwidth
requirements of growing enterprises.

''Lucent's P120 joins a sophisticated, standards-compliant switch family that has provided us
with a high degree of functionality at very competitive prices,'' said Bob Smiley, technology
director for the 900-node, seven-building Stoughton School District, in Stoughton, Wisc., a
Lucent Cajun Campus customer. ''The P120 offers the kind of high-performance bandwidth
required by today's desktop users and, together with its add-on modules, will provide the district
with choices and options to expand the network as required to accommodate tomorrow's
applications.''

Designed for complete compatibility with both legacy and multivendor networks, the Cajun P120
Workgroup Switch complies with all major IEEE standards for Virtual LAN (VLAN) and
Priority Tagging, Gigabit Ethernet, Spanning Tree and Flow Control. In addition, IGMP support,
to be made available via a software upgrade, provides support for a wide variety of multicast
applications.

To simplify installation and management, the P120 includes a free Java(TM)-based device
management application with an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI). A full-featured
Command Line Interface (CLI) provides further flexibility by enabling remote configuration of
the P120 via an external modem connection, while a secure telnet feature prevents unauthorized
access to the switch.

Sophisticated Network Monitoring

Most competitive workgroup switches provide minimal network monitoring support. Lucent's
Cajun P120 supports four groups of RMON I (Statistics, History, Alarms and Events), and is
also designed to take advantage of the company's unrivaled Switch MONitoring (SMON(TM))
technology. SMON, scheduled to be available for the P120 via a software upgrade this summer,
is the RMON MIB extension designed by Lucent specifically for switched networks. Set to
become a widely adopted industry standard, SMON combines network-wide traffic monitoring
of multiple SMON-enabled devices simultaneously, with an advanced drill-down capability to
trace abnormal network conditions to individual hosts or servers. By extending SMON
capability into the workgroup, the P120 greatly enhances the manageability of fully switched
networks.

Lucent's Cajun Campus Solutions are a comprehensive portfolio of highly reliable LAN products
designed to alleviate the increasing demands on enterprise networks associated with the
convergence of data, voice and video applications. These products include Ethernet,
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and multifunction switches ranging from sophisticated
stackable switches to high-performance backbone chassis platforms capable of moving vast
amounts of data traffic quickly and easily.
