~ OT ~ Comments on DSL -- from an AWRE poster...

I think ADSL and cable modems will co-exist but my friend makes some great points. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

DSL does give the user several important advantages:

1) The freedom to chose an ISP

2) G.lite is as fast as many cable implementations easy toinstall/use(Aware Inc.:AWRE international standard to be adopted in June)

3) Full rate ADSL is faster than cable (yes it requires a visit from a technician, but doesn't cable as well?!?!?)

4) DSL is much more secure

5) DSL will have the advantage in the business environment (many businesses not wired for cable)

6) Existing phone/DSL infrastructure is readily available to many more people than cable

7) Going forward, DSL will make cable obsolete in the long term (10 years?) due to the continued implementation of a fibre optic infrastructure.>>
