I was impressed with Platt's optimism. High single digits to low doubles for growth is welcome news to my ears!

HP was really hit by its foreign exposure giving it nearly flat growth for awhile. Now that Asia seems to be coming back, this could be a huge bonus for HWP that analysts miss.

Also, Platt coming out and saying that HP is not feeling the PC crunch Compaq and IBM are feeling is good news. I was at both Best Buy's in Colorado Springs this weekend and must have seen 5-6 HP computer/monitor/printer bundles being sold. HP was the only PC I saw acutally checking out. I was surprised. Their new 8400 series Pavillion with Pentium III, DVD, CD writer, and Digital camera port seem to be hits.

Time and again, the market says it will pay for the right feature set at the right price. HP does a bang-up job in the high end printers and is extending this to the low end printers. No reason they can't do the same in a similar, cut throat business like PCs.

Also, Compaq has proven several times that it has troubles managing its business. The overstocking / channel stuffing problem last yr really hurt the box makers.

Jody, long time no talk. You are probably not too happy with my less than favorable comments regarding HWP. However, I have to say that HWP has no chance for recovery if Platt is around. His interview on CNBC this morning was comical. I have never seen a CEO in the high tech sector so excited over a target growth rate of high single digit to low double digit. Now it appears he is shooting from the hip.

I have no position on HWP right now but I suspect it will be a good short in the near future.

Just my 2 cents.
