Bill,

The Asia turnaround is definitely reason for optimism. Interesting that INTC in their conference call indicated their THEIR sales to Japan have been increasing steadily during this quarter, and implied that we had seen the bottom.

With Japan as HP's second largest market (the largest market for some segments fo the business), this is VERY good news.

Also CPQ's distaster is partly due to a change in market share. Have a look at:

zdnet.com

This actually works out as being relatively good news to just about every major PC maker that isn't based in Houston...

Random Thoughts:

I love the the continuing HP and Lew Platt critics. Nothing either Platt or the company do will ever satisfy the group. Platt is either too stiff or too comical, too complacent or too much enthusiasm. The company is too slow moving. Can't generate enough revenue (with the Asian economic mess). Let's the reasonable investor understand that this cadre of posters will never be happy with the company. Changes are in the wind. Lighten up.
