I transferred from part of my account from Datek to Schwab in less than 3 days from initiation, by obtaining Schwab's electronic transfer number and giving it to Datek. I have since transferred part BACK to Datek who has improved execution time while Schwab's Change/Cancel segment has slowed to a turtle's pace. A rep there confided to me that sometimes their equipment gets swamped by volume. I transferred part so I could still trade using margin. Probably could not have transferred so quickly if I hadn't already had the account. When you find one you like, open an account, then transfer. If they tell you they can't transfer electronically, ask to talk to someone else because you can.
