Private eye: I trust the previous post explains the importance of a large halo. It is the clue as to the size of the magmatic event; if it is not very large, chances of a mine are small. But the second point as to the "pooling" conditions is also critical; you logically could have a large event which cooled very quickly so gravity did not have enough time to cause the good stuff to collect at the bottom of the granite/gneiss. But if the halo is extremely large, the chances are very good there was simply so much material that many pools should be formed and therefore give economically mineable regions.
