DESIGN DATA SYSTEMS ALIGNS WITH ORACLE AND NOVELL TO DELIVER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Complete Business Management Platform

CLEARWATER, Fla., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Design Data Systems Corporation, Novell and Oracle teamed up with a price promotion giving small and mid-sized businesses a golden opportunity to install a complete business management platform at a very attractive price.

Design Data is giving NetWare5 customers their industry leading SQL*TIME financials application as part of their purchase. This puts SQL*TIME's General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable applications in the hands of NetWare5 users enabling the bundled Oracle8(TM) database.

The offer was first announced at Brainshare99, a recent Novell annual technical conference in Salt Lake City.

Oracle8(TM) and NetWare5 provide a powerful platform for deploying web- enabled applications such as Design Data's software. The SQL*TIME suite, which is both modular and fully integrated, is excellent for product and service oriented companies seeking enterprise-wide business management applications.

SQL*TIME was awarded the Novell "Yes," Tested and Approved certification as an industry-leading business management application. "We are delighted to offer a solution that leverages our technology so effectively. Novell's channel partners are excited to deploy financial solutions like SQL*TIME on the Oracle8(TM) for NetWare platform," said Bill Wall, Novell's Director of World Wide Channel Marketing.

"The combination of Oracle, Novell and Design Data Systems make a great choice for small and medium-sized businesses who need flexible and scalable business management solutions with a low total cost of ownership," said Shari Simon, senior vice president, Americas Alliances and Marketing, Oracle Corporation.

Oracle databases are capable of managing any kind of data and support web access through a standard Internet browser. Oracle's database delivers the most scalable, reliable and cost effective data management solution for business, no matter how large or small.

Novell plans to involve regional resellers, who will train in SQL*TIME product knowledge and implementation methodology. "Having a qualified reseller/implementor in the customer's backyard is a critical success factor," said Peter Falina, Design Data Systems vice president of sales. "With immediate access to consulting services from Novell, customers will quickly get their new business management applications up and running."

Design Data Systems licenses its SQL*TIME financial products directly and through authorized business partners and is an Oracle Authorized Reseller.

Paul,

Its not that I had trouble registering. I registered on the first day of Brainshare. I go there every other day to see if the site is open as a trial portal that I can use.

I dont think Schmidt will say anything about the site since it has been there for quite some time and there really isnt much to see there at this time.

ON ANOTHER NOTE.....

This morning I went to a MSFT Windows2000 Tech Primer that was held in our city today. They talked all about what Windows2000 will have as features and they started explaining to the crowd on the real need for a Directory Service to replace all the disperate DSes that are currently out there (many of them their own). It is SOOOOO irnonic to to hear MSFT talking about the merits on an open-system, scaleable, single, reliable, replicable, Directory Service. I wanted to stand up and say - "Your right and NOVL has a mature one that you can use right now to address all the dreams you have just heard from the speaker".

After watching the demonstration from the MSFT SE's on Active Directory - NOVL HAS NOTHING TO FEAR WHEN MSFT AD SHOWS UP. What a peice of garbage. (Although I knew much of it) It still needs Domains. It still needs Trust relationships. It took this one server/10 user AD tree 30 seconds to add a user to the tree!!! The SE didnt even use the excuse that it was because of the Beta. He said it is because of the DNS searching method. Users are still stored and managed under individual servers. The administrative tools called MMC was very confusing to understand.

I can now see a real life example of why NOVL wants nothing more than to have MSFT release Windows2000 and Active Directory. With a product like that, any current DS will look fantastic. MSFT is in big trouble with this product!!!

And as for Windows2000. With all the hype that I have heard and read, I went to this tech presentation to hear and see what is so great about NT5 (ooops I meant Windows2000). I almost fell asleep. By the way, did you know that Windows2000 will now allow Administrators to setup User Disk Quotas?!?!? WOW! (NetWare has had that ability since NetWare 3!). These are basic features that MSFT is just now putting into their server product. They have also reduce the amount of times support staff have to reboot due to a system configuration change - ROFL!!

It was like watching a comedy show. I cannot see how any CIO or serious tech professional could sit there and actually be amazed by what they saw and heard. I just should my head countless times.

PS - I felt like the Melissa virus in that room full of MSFT Geeks!

The only good and interesting part of the conference was when the General Maanger of Microsoft Canada spoke to the crowd. He actual said things that a normal MSFT Exec wouldnt say. He said a main reason they re-organized was because they were looking around and noticed how their competitors were bringing their products to market much faster than MSFT. He also said that competitors that he didnt think were competitors are now worrying him (do you think he was referring to NOVL).

Anyways, I thoroghly enjoyed going to this seminar. Active Directory is more of a joke than I had read. When a MSFT SE cannot make a MSFT product look respectable and important - you know that this product is in trouble.

Cheers!
