What you are seeing is the relatively slow nature of internet cable installation. I posted some figures a couple of months ago about the expected growth, and I don't recall exactly what they are, but it is something like 15M broadband customers in 2002, of which maybe 1/3 will be on cable. I am going by memory now, so it is not this, but it is something like this. The point is that ATHM will not compete with AOL in sheer numbers for a long long time. That is why they went with XCIT, to have a more immediate impact on eyeballs. But if you are investing in ATHM looking for a broadband cable revolution within the next year or two, you will be disappointed. This is a 3-4-5 year hold.

"[ATHM's] partnerships... provide exclusive access to more than
half of all homes passed by cable in North America; additional affiliated cable operator agreements will further increase coverage."

I'm not concerned that they currently only pass 15 million homes with upgraded cable, but the comparitively small growth in the number from last quarter (~15%) does raise a flag.
It might well be that upgrades happen slower in the wintertime.
