Lucent On Target For Strong Second Quarter MURRAY HILL, N.J., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) said today it expects to report earnings per share in line with or exceeding analysts' consensus estimates of 15 cents for its fiscal second quarter of 1999. The company also said it is on target to post revenues in excess of $8 billion, an increase of more than 30 percent from the year-ago quarter. Lucent issued today's statement in response to recent market speculation about the quarter. Lucent will report its earnings on April 22. "Lucent saw strong growth this quarter both inside and outside the U.S.," said Richard McGinn, Lucent chairman and chief executive officer. "We remain very confident about our short-term and long-term prospects as our customers continue to invest in the communications networks of the future." McGinn reiterated that the company expects revenue growth of 19 to 20 percent for the year and earnings per share growth of about 35 percent, excluding one-time events.
