I think you're wrong. They stated that the reason they were doing this was to end speculation. It was not a planned announcement but an impromptu assurance that the analyst was misguided. DELL's was a planned conference that people knew well in advance.

The paradigm has shifted from earnings to revenue. LU will kick butt.

No, Lucent is unequivocal. Revenues will exceed $8 billion, EPS will meet or exceed analyst expectations of $0.15. BTW EPS will almost undoubtably be $0.17 or more on those revenues. There will be enormous short covering at the open, look for a pop of $7 or more. In any case, the whisper number for Lucent has been below consensus, not above. You can officially start celebrating.
