Scumbria - <I have never seen any Intel person compliment the nice MHz ramp of the K6 family over the last 12 months, or the first rate architecture of K7>

1) Nice MHz ramp: AMD has ramped MHz aggressively, but one wonders if this was at the expense of yields, and a viable manufacturing program. I know we disagree about this. My expertise and experience is on the manufacturing side. Please understand this when I am critical of AMD's manufacturing record or approaches. These are genuine opinions, not just slamming AMD for the sake of it. Actually, I believe AMD's manufacturing record is more a function of it's business plan, than it is of incompetence. But never the less, based on my experience, AMD's recent performance in the manufacturing arena would have been viewed as disastrous in any concern I have been previously associated with.

2) K7 architecture: I am not an architecture or design guy. I will take it at face value when Gwenapp says the design has some good and interesting features. Hell, I'll even take your word Scumbria! How K7 compares to Intel's upcoming offerings is still a matter for debate. I will grant you that apparently the K7 has some strong proponents in the design field, and Intel had better have a decent response (for my own selfish, me first reasons). Also, as always, AMD will have to execute the manufacture of this thing in a viable fashion and sell a decent number at a profit before I'd go calling the K7 a success, as this is how I measure it (success). However, the potential is there.

I guess I'd better go to work! My employer's competitor is making noises that it wants my employer's lunch money! :-)

I have, although my complimentary words for AMD's accomplishments might have been overshadowed by my criticism of their execution. ;-)

<I am raising technical issues over here, as opposed to the mindless barrage of "foils" "losses ahead", etc., etc. spam on the AMD thread.>

Somehow, I knew you were trying to imitate "Intel-a-bee" behavior on the AMD thread by being an "AMD-a-bee" on the INTC thread.

RE; I can assure you that level of obnoxiousness on this thread pales by comparison to the endless barrage
of nasty posts from Intel supporters on the AMD thread.

Scumbria,

I don't recall having ever seen you insult a soul. Which is why I love your input, even if on occasion I disagree.

B.

Scumbria,

When Intel has a good
technical idea like Willamette, Whitney, or Mendocino, I am the first to praise
them.

I read this thread all the time and don't remember you ever saying one good thing about any Intel product. Your latest is to pour cold water all over Merced, which isn't even out yet. Just what is your agenda?
