OT: CNN aired Zhu Rongji interview tonight, approx. 25 minutes. Little or no mention of the trade deals and WTO. Judy Woodruff was putty in the Premier's hands--she looked and warbled like a good little Mt. Holyoke graduate student pleased to be in such august company. Not only that, her questions were so ethnocentric and puerile, as if China is a two-bit, johnnie come lately culture trying to get into the bigtime. When are you going to become emancipated, democratic capitalists like us? I love our country, but it makes me squirm when our supposed best media representative condescend to an individual, if not a culture, superior in many ways to JW. It was a wasted, sophomoric vignette. One interesting note did come out: the Minister of Internal Security reports directly to Zhu. He easily ducked all the questions re. theft of nuclear secrets, security breaches, etc. CDMA would seem perfect for wireless in China. Zhu goes to Boston tomorrow. Regards. Liacos_samui
