I heard of a new internet company which addresses the special needs of shorters in this raging market: petroleumjelly.com

P.S. Wouldn't you know it... it exists!

JY,
I understand your thoughts on the insanity of the internet. The reason I am confidant FLBK will come back to reality is because people totally missed the point of the press release. They assumed because it said internet banking it was going after customers nationally like netbank. That is not the case. It is offering a convenience service to its current customers(in 3 cities) just like most every other bank already has. The other companies you mention are going after a very large potential market share which they are trying to capture over the internet. FLBK is using the internet for an entirely different purpose. Would they accept a new customer in Walla Walla Washington who wanted to open an account at a Florida bank and then bank exclusively over the internet. Sure! But why would the customer want to do that? There are no advantages FLBK could offer to induce that customer. Conversely, It might be very inconvienient if you need to cash a check, or order deposit slips or inquire about a service charge 12 states away! That potential customer certainly could get the same internet banking at Nations Bank, and have a branch and a person to go to when he she needs to.
Enough Said,
Rob
