<NTBK>

Nothing would stop them.

In order to compete with NTBK's lower overhead, Citigroup (C) might have to have a special "net account." Net account holders would only be able to access their account via the net and ATMs. They would get higher interest to match or exceed NTBK's, but they would not get the full services regular Citigroup clients get. (Or they can get them at extra cost.)

Some rocket scientist is going to say, "Yeah, but regular clients will be pissed because they are getting lower interest than net account holders." This discrepancy in price is not a new concept and is something almost every one of us faces every day: When you trade via the discount brokerage online, you pay a lower rate than if you trade on the phone with a person at the same brokerage. BFD. CompUSA is doing the same thing, as well as BKS, BGP, and others.

I am sorry, but NTBK is POS of the smelliest variety. EQTX is a bigger POS, and am I ever glad I bought it at 27.

Common sense is out the window.

You heard it here.
