William, I believe you have missed the deadline for filing electronically!!!!

I don't know the cutoff date was for electronic filing. Your Kiplinger should tell you.

We've used Turbo Tax for three years. I've always hated it. This year they improved the design. It does carry forward data from last year's return ~ very nice feature. Saves much time.

We like the new window for reporting proceeds from stock transactions. In the past, we had to report proceeds on those tiny little lines.

This year, you type all information into a larger window which then puts it on those tiny little lines.

I don't know what housemate paid for it. It must have been a pretty good deal because he bought it at Costco and TTax comes with a discount coupon, usually.

At least this year, I didn't hear so many groans and zinga words when he used it. I refuse to use it because the past design of Turbo Tax sent me into a loop.

What I do is figure out cost basis for stocks on paper. When we get to that part of tax form, I ask housemate to tabulate the numbers on calculator to see if they match mine. If they do, he types in the numbers. Of course, we always check brokerage statements to make sure our numbers correspond with proceeds that firms have turned into IRS.

So, it was pretty easy to do our taxes this year. Also, in 1998, I sold losers, like oil stocks, so we will get a refund.

I do not plan to sell many shares in 1999. So next year's taxes should be even easier.

Good to hear you are getting it together. We signed our copy for IRS tonight!!! It will be in the mail tomorrow.
