GOLDMAN Sachs, the global investment banking and securities firm, is hosting a two-day conference in Hyderabad on Thursday to introduce India's leading software companies to the international investment community, announced a press release.

Over 20 software companies will participate in the event. The companies include all the market leaders as well as new entrants with proven potential. The companies will use the platform to present their business plans to the international investors.

The participating investors represent almost all the international money invested in India. The investors have over $1 trillion under their management.

This is by far the largest investment pool ever exposed to the Indian software industry, said the release. The conference will be devoted exclusively to software, says Goldman Sachs. The conference will be inaugurated by Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister.

“Software exports from India for 1998-99 are estimated at $2.7 billion. This is an increase from the $1.675 billion worth of exports in the previous year. Targeting $50 billion worth of software exports by 2008, India is on the threshold of becoming an IT superpower. Goldman Sachs is happy to help achieve this goal by making its expertise available to Indian entrepreneurs,” said Mr Meg Saegebarth, vice-president and head of coverage of business and IT services stocks, sources said.
