macromedia makes great products, un[or]fortuneately they also make it really easy to pirate their stuff.

sure, software piracy eats into all co's profitability.. but macromedia is more exposed in that it offers full program downloads for trial purposes...

any semi-capable util cracker can throw together a reg fix file to defeat the minimal protections in these programs...

and that makes the job of the warez groups and the appz end user all the more easier in that a) the warez group only has to distro the crack/reg fix file as opposed to ripping/packaging/couriering a retail version and b) the end user only has to download the small patch file in conjunction to the app that macro readily supplies....

so a company that supplies its own free ware (essentially) to the net is going to have a very difficult time making money.. or a lower amount than projected demand might indicate...

one last note.. macromedia enhanced sites (flash, shockwave)are generally not preferred by low bandwidth web surfers... of course thoughtful web masters make usually make a low bandwidth version..

finally, here's one of my favorite flash sites (a must see for all those who dislike the teletubbies)

newgrounds.com

newgrounds.com

(the main page - be sure to check out the assassin section, there's bound to be one pop culture icon you want to kill)

design123.com

(a shockwave site i helped write.. yes, it is a commercial site, but its a great demonstration of shockwave/flash capability.)
