sb...re: cpq

until recently, cpq was my single largest holding...i had been accumulating with an adjusted cost basis in the low teens...why..because i had hopes that the dec buy would be integrated as the best of both cultures..creating an entity that would not only grow revenues to $50b by y2k...but with profits...a "new" company that could and would challenge ibm...but ep and em reduced the technology and prestige of dec, who was sorely in need of management to an obfuscation of who knows what...worse off than what they started..ep is obsessed with the retail market...wants it all regardless of cost..employee layoffs were the first sign...marketing errors followed..now the financial guffaws have just about pushed the stake into the heart of the company...i can see a revenue shortfall, be it real or perceived..but a disproportionate profit drop...something is not right! got out between 34-44..no regrets, made money...have been in dell since 8/96...made more money..i think we are in the first stage of a shake out in a maturing market...platt reorganizing hwp..claims success...gerstner with the death of the pc...gtw looks good, but too home spun pony tail steve jobs wannabees...dell becoming the cpq that i thought would be...only in a fashion that would make the japanese business style envious...cpq alpha 64 bit..yea, yea..lets see them execute..the market lost faith...if i was a large user, i would question the staying power of cpq...unless ep goes away!
