<<<And
may I suggest that you bop over to SI's own
"Ask God" thread, which is populated almost
exclusively by conservative fundamentalists. And
take a look at their reception of our friend E.V.
It is every bit as unfriendly as the reception he
receives here. Those folks are definitely NOT
anti-Semites, however deluded you may think
them in other respects.>>>

It was in reference to this part of your post, which immediately succeeds the one you quote, that I made my point-- which I had meant to be that it was not necessary for you to tell me that "those folks" are not antisemites, as I had not made the assumption they were.

The blood libel against the Jews in Christian culture has an ugly perenniality about it. I won't give examples. And I would point out that the most rapidly growing sector of Protestant belief in this country tends to treat the Bible as inerrant, which has an obvious bearing on this question.

BTW, the semi-apology from the Vatican, while to be welcomed, is an interesting exercise of the following sort: It affirms the truthfulness of the Bible accounts, and it apologizes for the hideous actions belief in those accounts has led to.

I wonder when the Church will stop naming institutions it controls in honor of the vile antisemites among the Church Fathers.
