Had to jump in on that one.

Investing is about making money, emotions shouldn't be a factor. I don't think shorters are hoping something fails. It's that they believe something will fail. Big difference.

I've never posted to this thread but feel a need to say something about your statement above.

I think that you've gotten it backwards. Shorters(and putters) don't at all prey on Misery, they prey on ecstasy. In other words, they prey on overly high expectations of a stock's future prospects.

In fact, anyone shorting when the long holders are miserable and see no light at the end of the tunnel are asking for trouble. That, IMO, is time to buy, generally speaking.
