Cal. First of all, I haven't seen the government planning report - I was responding to an earlier posting that mentioned the report in the context of a newspaper article published in Yellowknife. I was simply trying to point out some of the flaws contained in the analysis printed in that newspaper article.

Secondly, I do expect that Ottawa will have to put up some funding for any new roads to be built. The GNWT is having a difficult enough time trying to pay for upgrading the last 56 km of unpaved road between Yellowknife and the south, so I don't expect that they will be able to contribute to any road to the Slave Geological Province. At least part of the hold-up on the IZOK Lake project was the lack of infrastructure (ie. roads and port facilities). Sure there were other factors involved in the decision to delay development, but the lack of federal $$$$ was definitely a consideration.

Thirdly, I am aware of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) and Nuna Logistics feasibility study for the northern road/port facility development option, and have even studied the report. But frankly, I was not too impressed. Light on details, long on assumptions. If this is what the Department of Transportation and Arthur Anderson (planning consultants) are pinning their hopes on, then I would not want to have to justify a development decision based on that document. The reality is that if the northern route option was feasible without government support then Kit Resouces (KIT-T) would have exercised their option on IZOK Lake and the other mining projects capable of taking advantage of the road would also be well along the feasibility planning process. As far as I can tell, it is pretty quite up there in the SGP (other than diamonds).

Just trying to add some value to the thread.

Regards.
