An American View from Inside Serbia

<< Although I am an American citizen, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, I have lived, studied and worked in Yugoslavia (Serbia) for almost thirteen years now. I initially came to help a friend build his house in a village near Novi Sad. Subsequently I fell in love, got married and established my family here. I have been working at the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Novi Sad as a language instructor for about nine years. >>

Hi Searle,

From all I read, I believe Y2K will be fairly serious, but not TEOTWAWKI (The end of the world as we know it), but a major pain in the butt just the same. I believe there will be short term food shortages and some bank runs caused by public panic near the end of the year and probably oil shortages in the first quarter of 2000 as well as significant problems in the healthcare industry.

However, I acknowledge there are all kinds of views on this ... I guess you pays your money and takes your chances.

:-))

John

Searle, what your friend said about PC problems could be true, however, for my own 2 1/2 old 133 pentium from AST it was not compliant until the BIOS revision 1.03 was installed. Many earlier computers do not have an upgradeable BIOS. If it wasn't important AST wouldn't be telling it's consumers that to be compliant they needed to download and install the new BIOS. AST doesn't say and I don't know the consequences of not updating the BIOS. Ron
