maui, you can see what the market makers are doing on a level 1 real-time system to at least figure out if a gap is in the cards or not at the open...However, Level II is essential to seeing the momentum direction of the positions you hold,how fast shares are being eaten up, how many are available at different prices, and playing detective to see if certain market makers are accumulating or distributing for a big client...The number 1 market maker is GSCO...The lead market maker in each security is called the AX, and rightly so, they want to chop your head off...
