BankFirst Announces Internet Banking Product Launch

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 1999--BankFirst (Nasdaq:BKFR - news) today announced the launch of its newest technology-driven product. BankFirst OnLine® is an Internet banking product offering both consumer and commercial applications. The product is accessible through the BankFirst web site at www.bankfirst.net.

''Technology has arrived at the point where on-line banking and cash management services are both easily accessed and affordable,'' said Fred R. Lawson, BankFirst president and chief executive officer. ''BankFirst OnLine is the newest way for our customers to do their banking anytime they want.''

Two of the key benefits of an Internet banking service are convenience and ease of use. ''Convenience is a top priority for most everyone these days,'' Lawson said. ''BankFirst OnLine provides the flexibility of doing your banking without leaving your home or office, while still knowing that personal service is always available from any BankFirst employee.''

BankFirst OnLine features many money and time saving conveniences for both consumers and businesses.

-- Transfer funds between accounts -- Pay bills electronically -- Review daily transactions -- Search accounts by check number, amount or date range -- Stop payment on checks -- Request address changes -- Reorder checks -- Export account information to Quicken and Microsoft Money personal finance programs

''BankFirst OnLine for Business provides another avenue for business owners to take advantage of the more sophisticated cash management services they often need,'' said Lawson. ''Because of this product's capabilities and user-friendliness, businesses of all sizes should be able to function more efficiently and profitably.''

Using BankFirst OnLine's cash management features, businesses can take advantage of the following additional services:

-- Utilize corporate sweep accounts
-- Distribute payroll directly to employees' accounts
-- Make IRS tax payment automatically
-- Create ACH transactions
-- Request wire transfers
-- Control levels of employee access to accounts

Security and confidentiality are also key priorities for anyone using Internet-based banking products. ''It is critical that anyone using an Internet banking product know that their account information is secure,'' Lawson said. ''BankFirst OnLine uses state-of-the-art encryption mechanisms to protect the confidentiality and integrity of our customers' account information.''

BankFirst OnLine incorporates multiple levels of security passwords and authenticity tests:

-- User IDs and passcodes with a ''three strikes and you're out'' lockout mechanism

-- VeriSign digital ID system -- Encrypted data transmission -- Firewalls and routers for traffic filtration -- Pre-designated computer required for log-on

BankFirst OnLine provides an excellent value for the benefits received. The Internet banking portion of the consumer product has no monthly fees, with a one-time $12 set-up charge. Bill Pay is available for $4 per month. BankFirst OnLine for Business pricing varies, depending on the level of services used. Business fees can be offset via checking account analysis, providing the opportunity to avoid monthly hard charges.
