Any such long term contract is almost a scam. This is going to be an era of constant efflorescence of new technologies eclipsing the very categories of long distance and local telephony. Any particular competitor of Ameritech is unlikely to keep up. Long distance telephony will be rushing toward a role as a loss leader or even free service of your Internet Service Provider.
