Just a coda: I was trying to get at the tough question of how attitudes inculcated almost in passing by religious teaching play out in the life and actions of individual believers. Take Sidney Reilly, for example. E likes him very much, and he seems like a decent fellow and nothing like an antisemite. However, he is steeped in falsified history, and his take on the Bible has left him with the impression that antisemitism amounts to payback. That the Jews, by "persecuting, hunting and killing" Christians from the get-go, started it. This may not be 'antisemitism,' but it's consequential.
