Titan Corporation Building Food Pasteurization Processing Facility toEffectively Eliminate E.Coli 0157:H7 and Listeria Monocytogenes

Facility Strategically Positioned to Serve 8 Billion

Pound U.S. Ground Beef Market

SAN DIEGO, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Titan Corporation (NYSE: TTN)
announced today that it will be constructing and operating an electronic
pasteurization system for meat utilizing Titan's patented SureBeam(R) system
in Northwest, Iowa. The pasteurization process, which can effectively
eliminate the threat of E.Coli 0157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella and
Campylobacter in food, is a safe and effective method to eliminate the threat
of these deadly pathogens in food without using radioactive elements such as
Cobalt 60. Titan's electronic pasteurization system offers a unique
end-point, terminal safety treatment for meat products as part of a
processor's Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Program.
Titan's SureBeam system is patented and uses commercial electricity as the
source of electrons that are accelerated to pass through the food which
effectively destroys food borne pathogens.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), food borne disease is
estimated to kill nearly 9,000 Americans a year and sicken thousands more.
Studies have shown that irradiation is capable of eliminating the threat
caused by most, if not all pathogens that are found in meat products. The
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of radiation for red meat
in December 1997, and in February 1999, the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) released a draft of proposed rules, which will soon allow
the nation's meatpackers and processors to treat fresh and frozen raw meats
with this technology. Approvals and rules already exist for many other food
products including fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, NASA entrees, wheat
and wheat flour.

According to the American Meat Institute (AMI), total retail beef consumed
in the United States alone is nearly 25 billion pounds annually, including
approximately 8 billion pounds of ground beef. Iowa State University
statistics indicate world wide beef production is estimated to be nearly 100
billion pounds.

Titan's electronic pasteurization system, currently under construction at
a Cloverleaf Cold Storage facility, will be capable of processing in excess of
50 million pounds of ground beef or other meat products annually. Estimates
indicate that in excess of 150 Titan systems across the U.S. could be required
to address the potential demand for the ground beef market alone.

"Titan is committed to making food safer through electronic pasteurization
using its SureBeam system," said Dr. Gene W. Ray, President and Chief
Executive Officer of The Titan Corporation. Ray continued, "Titan's SureBeam
system is as safe as a microwave oven. It can be integrated directly into a
food processor's production line, or Titan can own and operate contract
electronic pasteurization service centers similar to the Iowa system." Dr.
Ray concluded, "Titan's SureBeam system is patented, and we intend to
aggressively protect our intellectual property on behalf of our shareholders."

The Titan Corporation is a leading provider and integrator of
state-of-the-art information technology, satellite communications systems and

existing core businesses in order to increase profitability and grow market
share. The firm currently has annualized sales in excess of $340 million with
a total backlog of more than $800 million and 2,200 employees. Titan
Corporation is headquartered in San Diego, CA.
