Richard:

Etrade is generally very fast with executions. I use level II nasdaq quotes (Power Etrade) and 99% of the time I see my order routed within seconds. However, I always use limit orders. I advise you do this also with Etrade, as sometimes if a market order is placed the Market Maker that gets the order from Etrade does not always give the best fill. With a limit, at least you are saying what you will pay or sell for. Only problem is, of course, if the stock never hits the limit.

Also, remember confirmations are delayed sometimes but the order is not. A good idea is to go to your Trading History and enter the date of the trade to see if it goes through. I have noticed many times if my confirmation is delayed (say 1/2 hour for instance) Trading History is updated with seconds of the order. Lately, I just look there. It beats waiting on the confirmations!

Anyway, hope this helps.
