csm: Has anyone seen anything from She-x on whether Earl is packing yet?

she_x is taking an opposite position to rudedog on what the insider leaks are about 1Q. She says that the March unit figures in commercials were the highest in the company's history - she saw them herself. She says the fact that they are not being trumpeted by CPQ is part of a plan. The plan was to sacrifice this quarter, bring forward expenses, spend on extra trips and so on, once they realised that the quarter would not be good. Kind of let's be hung for a sheep as for a lamb. However, they miscalculated - they did not realise that this plan would produce such bad EPS results. She thinks that there is still a lot of fat from DEC - layers of bureaucracy - and that some of the old hand COMPAQ people are having to go over to the DEC operation and cut it down to size.

She believes INNOVATE is clearly showing the world what the vision is and is prepared to sit out the remainder of the Digital digestion process, to enjoy the fruits later, even if it does take this year.

she_x feels that although she has a very large shareholding in COMPAQ, she is sheilded from these set backs by other shares in her portfolio that are performing - and in the light of this she should be less positive on COMPAQ in her postings.

(I hope she tells it as she sees it - if we all do that then we can develop an informed consensus).

In contrast, rudedog reported that some COMPAQ people were telling him that costs had been deferred from this quarter to next.
