I think I can answer that....
Jan/Feb is probably the cheapest airtime you can buy.
April is more expensive, but not so expensive after Easter.
AAPL's ad buying agency has probably figured out how to get the most bang for the buck. By buying in now, they haven't stretched their budget too much, and can coordinate with earnings.

seemed to disappear, only to reappear the last couple of days. Is this a message to Wall Street?

I've seen the "colors" comercial reappear this week during The Daily Show. Is this a message to John Stewart fans? ;-b

My guess is that there was a drought of iMacs...or to put it another way, there is no reason to advertise when you can't meet demand. Since Apple has just started cranking out the new 333mhz iMacs, they are ready to start advertising again.
