If it is bogus and never was real, it never was issued under copyright. I think the copyright issue is a separate question.

I see the author(s) as clearly liable, but the reposters just saw a link that looked real about a buyout and just reposted it.

This is a lawyer's heaven - anyone can be sued for reposting anything - if it later turns out to be false and damaging to someone.
