Poor Q.COM finally got whupped with an ugly stick, but jeez-Louise what a helluva ride! When we've been locked in a trading range of 44 7/8 to 48 13/16 for a few million years, twenty point day spreads take some getting used to. Rambus gets a little frisky from time to time, but the Q has definitely left the 'widows and orphans' home and entered the bikers and leather bars crowd. What do you guys think might be up Irwin's sleeve? He's definitely entitled to some time off, but, OTOH, this is his chance to put Q up there with the big boys in the telecom fraternity house. The CDMA royalty stream will be a fire hose gusher which is obviously very cool, but not enough by its lonesome. Okay, okay, since I know you were just dying to ask me--a huge wireless data acquisition! That's right boys and girls, you heard it here first, Irwin is going to buy Winstar or some such outfit. Also, just in case you think this is rumor mongering and shameless stock hypstering, NOT SO! I read this in the restroom at Building K right next to the age old wisdom: "for a good time, call . . . . ". I couldn't make out the name exactly but I'm pretty sure it was a famous M&A outfit and put 2 & 2 together, simple as that. [of course it could have been T&A in which case this theory may need further refinement, but somebody has to do something to get back the 11 points we lost!] So just forget that stuff about Q being acquired by LU or Ericy or NT : we are now officially the Great White and I'm thinking that a Q thread contest is in order. Successfully name the hors d'oeuvre on Irwin's plate, and first prize is you get to buy beers for everybody at next shareholder's meeting. Second prize is you have to drink them with Ramsey while listening to the end of the world apocalypse brought on by the inevitable devaluation of a currency you've never heard of. Loser gets to hear in excruciating detail about my great 5-wood shot to the 18th @ Sonoma National 2 weeks ago--really it was fascinating. SM
