TAIPEI, TAIWAN, 1999 APR 15 (NB). Ouantum Corp., the world's largest desktop PC hard disk drive manufacturer, has formed a strategic alliance with Acer Corp. to co-develop digital storage equipment.

The deal was announced by Quantum's hard disk drive department chief John Gannon, who is presently in Taiwan.

It is expected that the two companies will cooperate to develop DVD drives and digital home application products. While in Taiwan, Gannon will pay calls on First International Computer Inc., MiTAC International Corp., and Acer Corp. to strengthen business relationships, discuss solutions for Y2K, and discus co-development of new technology for digital products.
