i have a question about my margin at etrade. i have 50% of my money in cash.only 50% invested. then why is it that etrade has a margin call on my account?can anyone explain this? of course, i could call them.but, i was just trying to get answers without having to wait for two hours on the phone. TIA.

Yep, I had exact same problem today and when I called the customer rep transferred me to Technical Support --- I finally hung up. I think this problem has to do with the new site. If you don't properly "log off" then you seem to get trapped in a situation where the only way you can reaccess the system is to "log off" first. However, everytime this develops it's a result of ETrade disconnecting me and when I try to "log on" it turns out that I have to first "log out" from my previous session --- all very confusing. The biggest problem, of course, the only way you can "log off" from the prior session is to get back into the system - which it won't let you do unless you can "log on" which you can't do unless you first "log off" . . . . . . oh, how I do miss the Classic Site !!!!
