What I normally do in times like these is what I call "inside short"... finding a top or close to it and sell with full intention of re-purchasing lower... no pain. This way if everything works well, I'll miss some of those steps down that hurt my back once too many times. I only do this on stocks I like... or bullish on. That's my damage control... I found that buying puts on downtrends is very counter productive and not very cost effective. Have you seen what they ask for those puts during a slide? It makes you gag...

I was busy doing damage control most of the morning... my eyes glued to the monitor... awful day! Thank G_d my broker was cooperating!
