What do you think it might be, Mark?

Thanks for asking.

Answer: Ignorance. Wariness. Fear. All psychological factors. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Oracle isn't as sexy (sorry, Larry) as most of the other techs out there. You look at your desktop computer as it perks along on the Web, showing you pretty pictures and letting you buy books from Amazon.com and CDs from CDNOW, but what you DON'T see is the software running the databases at those sites. And that's just one segment of ORCL's market right now.

Anyone have any figures on the percentage of companies running e-commerce Web sites right now? Betcha that number's gonna grow like crazy over the next five years, and I betcha further that Larry's going to be selling a dumpload of software to those companies.

I watched an interview with LE one time, during which he said, in essence, "I hate PC's." Actually that's almost exactly what he said. I laughed at first, but over the last three or four years I've come to see his prophecy begin to be fulfilled.

I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to convince my grandchildren that Oracle ever traded below $25, let alone $125.
