XNET; AOL of China?
Check out the IR web Site for wealth of information at xinnet.net

1)One of the AOL's of China #5 ISP in Beijing, #3 in Shenyang
Demonstrated growth in subscribers of ~ 200%/year thus far

"Management is committed to becoming a significant Internet player in the China market. It is essential to establish a critical subscriber base with countrywide coverage. Xin Hai has a long and successful relationship with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT) and the Beijing Telecommunication Administration Bureau. Through their working relationships, Xin Hai plans to work with other local Provincial Telecommunications Bureaus and open sales and service offices in Shanghai (east), Shenyang (north-east), Guangzhou (south), Wuhan (middle) and Chengdu (west). Together with headquarter in Beijing (north), Xin Hai will provide Internet service coverage for the whole country. Beijing office has been operating since April 1997 and Shenyang office since October 1997."

2) "Value Added Services", including Email to Pager, potentially very big in China, especially with Telecom Deregulation Coming;
"Xin Hai had recently signed a joint venture agreement with Unicom China to offer their e-mail to Pager service to Unicom's customers. Unicom is the only authorized telecommunications service company in China besides the MPT. By the year 2000, Unicom is projected to have 10% of China's long distance market and 30% of the cellular market. They currently have a total of 400,000 pager users throughout China. Xin Hai's e-mail to Pager and other Internet related products and services will be offered to all new Unicom subscribers as well as their large existing subscriber base. Together with a dedicated marketing and advertising effort, management expects to achieve a 10% market share in the above 6 cities."

3)Yahoo of China?
Established Portal chnmail.com with increasing recognition among Chinese Web Surfers;
"Internet-Advertising: Federal Software for Microsoft
Portal Chinese Search Engine"

4)Amazon of China? Established E-commerce & expanding services. From PR "Businesses offer discounts to users of the E-Commerce service and Xin Hai receives a commission"

5)Ebay of China? "Xin Hai is poised to expand its E-Commerce services by introducing an expanded online E-Commerce service to the Chinese market. Xin Hai is already offering a "flea market" to its subscribers currently with over 10,000 items offered for sale. The expanded services will be made available during the second quarter of 1999, which will coincide with the start of the new operations in Shanghai and Taiyuan (populations 14 million and 8 million). Licenses have already been granted for these cities."

6)Web Hosting Agreement with PUNK, "Internet Advisory Corp", Allowing Chinese Businesses to "Host" their business on a "Western" site as the Global E-Market expands.

So as you see, maybe they are like an "AOL of China", but that may be too restrictive a term.
Disclosure: Long several thousand shares.
